The project’s location, in the center of the historical wooden house district, produces interesting architectural challenges. The district is regulated as a special zone for preservation. With this as a starting point, the project is an example of both vernacular and contemporary architecture. The building is divided into three volumes with roof forms and rythms that play together with the historic houses across the street. The roof forms come lower down the walls to break up the volume and create a relationship with the houses in the surrounding context. Wood siding will be used as a façade material while parti walls and floors will be of concrete construction. The angled walls and roof forms with wood siding give the project special character and formal expression.
