Our contribution to the Industry!-exhibition displays a section of the square and some of the key experiments of the Offshore Culture project. It combines fullscale samples in real materials with 1:1 models of elements on the square. The intention is to explore the usability of different resources from the oil industry for the design process of an urban plaza. A broad, interdisciplinary group has been engaged in the work: researchers from the Oil Museum and Sintef’s digital research lab, geologists, production firms, petroleum companies, youth groups etc. As a methodological experiment, we have interpreted the three steps of the mapping operations for oil and gas reservoirs. We have used these three steps as an inspiration for the design of a new urban landscape. The three steps are explained below.
